Toastmasters is an organisation which allows people to improve their public speaking.
This is a rather academic definition and in no way does justice to what actually happens at our meetings. Our meetings are full of fun, laughter and good humour – somehow in among all this light-hearted activity we learn to improve our public speaking. Really it is irrelevant at what standard any member is at – we all agree that there is continual improvement in all of us.
The beauty of the Toastmasters program is that it allows for people of all standards, abilities and goals to be catered for. There is no opportunity to be self-conscious – everyone is there to help everyone else.
Members learn from both more experienced speakers and less-experienced speakers.
At Maccabi Toastmasters Club all people are welcome – whether they have experience in public speaking or no experience whatever. The helpful, friendly and supportive atmosphere is appreciated by all present.
New members have a mentor appointed to them to act as friend and guide, but really – all members of the club are always prepared to help all other members.
New members have commented that after attending a few meetings they feel that not only has their confidence improved but their verbal communication and listening ability has also reached a different standard.
Of course the meetings are not just dry exercises in public speaking. The lively and friendly interchanges at our meetings allow for creating and strengthening friendships and enhancing the warm club atmosphere.
You are invited to attend – visitors are always most welcome at our club. Do not be self-conscious regarding your ability. Come along, join in at whatever level you feel comfortable at – you will not regret it.
